Being a Sportsman!

BEING A SPORTSMAN  ‘APAARAJIT-POWER UNLEASHED’ WAS ONE OF THE BEST EVENTS I PARTICIPATED IN SYMBIOSIS LAW SCHOOL , NOIDA  AND  WINNING  IN   TWO EVENTS THAT WERE BASKETBALL  AND FIFTEEN HUNDRED METRE RACE PROVED TO BE AN ICING ON THE CAKE FOR ME. I LOVED THE IDEA BEHIND THIS EVENT THROUGH WHICH EVERYBODY GOT A CHANCE TO SHOW THEIR SPORTING  SKILLS AND THE EVENT PROVIDED A FAIR CHANCE FOR EVERYONE TO GET SELECTED IN THE COLLEGE TEAM.

THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE OF THE EVENT WAS AMAZING. I WAS A MEMBER OF THE TEAM OF JUNIORS AND IT WAS GREAT TO COMPETE WITH THE SENIORS.IT WAS TOUGH TO COMPETE AGAINST SENIORS BUT AT THE END MY TEAM WON AGAINST THE SENIORS IN BASKETBALL. THOUGH THE SENIORS WERE OUR OPPONENT BUT STILL THE SENIORS WERE HELPING AND SUPPORTING US IN BETWEEN THE MATCHES. THE BEST PART OF THE EVENT WAS THAT IT WAS PLAYED IN A VERY SPORTING AND FRIENDLY SPIRIT BETWEEN THE SENIORS AND THE JUNIORS. THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS VERY GOOD AND I WAS ABLE TO GRAB THE OPPORTUNITY WHICH WAS PROVIDED TO ME BY THE COLLEGE. AT THE END I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE SPORTS CELL OF THE COLLEGE WHO MADE THIS EVENT POSSIBLE.

1st Intra College Sports Fest :)

Do you know what my favourite part of the game is? The opportunity to play.
-Mike Singletary

Sports - activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.

Symbiosis Law School Noida does not believe in competition. It believes in bringing out the best in every member of its family.

We believe in entertainment. We believe in not restricting our teaching to the expanding of our metal horizon, but being active, and fit, and as they say, take the game down! To win, and more importantly, to participate. To not be disheartened by loses, but to respect the efforts we’ve put in.

So here we come. With our very own Sports Meet – APARAAJIT - Power Unleashed;

With a variety of sports ranging from Cricket to Football, to Basketball to Volleyball. And Athletics.  Table Tennis to Badminton. And to pinch your mind moves, Chess!

We see you perform, and we cheer for you. We see you win, and we congratulate you on working so hard.
Because we are a family, We encourage!

To all the participants – GOOD LUCK!

To all the Organizers – When this work is done, trust me, you’ll get peaceful Sleep!

To the non- participants – Go, Cheer!

As in the words of Phil Jackson -
Approach the game with no preset agendas and you'll probably come away surprised at your overall efforts.

First Birthday :D

When you are at school, we get various ideas about getting out of the house, from the protective shell of our parents, to explore, to experience and to build ourselves. Some choose to be rebellious. Some choose to be obedient. Some follow the usual path; some dare to go to the path not taken.

A year back, we decided to do the same.

To build our name; to being a part of something; to be inclined towards our destiny; which landed us to the place where we are standing and looking behind to the journey of building this place, and ourselves, brick by brick, inch by inch, one day at a time.

Last year, about October end, and November, the college wasn’t starting! We were so skeptical. People criticized our decision to be a part of a new college, and risking our whole career. But then, what is like if there are no risks involved? And today, we don’t regret the risk taken a year back. The dices we threw in a pitch black tunnel, knowing, that it would strike the highest when we emerge to the other lit end of this tunnel.

We learnt to accept that “Sundays might be a holiday” and grew to enjoy this.

We started with knowing two teachers, and one staff member, to almost 15 teachers and increasing count of staff members (non-teaching)

We learnt the definition of an institute as a family.

We proved that there is a thing called “Super-Cool” faculty.

We leant to judge the characters of people around us; to make friends, to trust and to live up to that trust.

To respect each other

To understand that every corner we turn in this college, there is a new talent emerging at every new step and acknowledging it.

To making a building alive. To building a college, home.

To learn to welcome new members, and teaching them the rules of family that comes naturally to us when we are in campus.

To be proud of what we have achieved in so less time, being modest and bend our head in gratitude and never stopping to achieve something new.

To persevere, and being dedicated.

To believing with all our heart that the decision to be a part of the Symbiosis Family was a wise decision, and having no regrets.

To having complains, and to resolving them amicably.

To trying to hate college and yet never taking a step back when it was about the college.

To being nostalgic, and happy about the memories we created.

To being a part of this, and being proud!

SLS Noida has become a home away from home for all of us. Being the very first batch, and introducing all amount of cultures, and traditions, competitions and ideas have made us the architect of the soul of this college.

We have spent 365 days here. One year! Already done! We have seen ups and downs. We have laughed, we have cried. We have fought, we have made amendments. We have cribbed, we have joked. We have shared what a lot of institutions cannot achieve. We have lived through the feeling of creating what SLS seems today.

Always proud, and the part of the wonderful family …

Happy First Birthday Symbiosis Law School, Noida!
May you live long, and bask in the glory of new achievements with every sunrise!

Cheers!

Practical Procedure over Theoretical Knowledge?

What is the difference between an Advocate and a Lawyer?
This is a common question that that keeps coming up. Being a first year law student it was pretty upsetting on my part that even I couldn’t figure out a perfect definition of disparity between them.
My displeasure was short lived, as Mr. Saurabh Ajay Gupta cleared the air for us first year students at Symbiosis Law School, Noida.
His perfect words being: An Advocate and a lawyer are both holding a law degree, but an Advocate is registered under the Advocates Act, 1961 with the Bar Council of India and is entitled to practice law in any court in India and a lawyer is not enrolled. A lawyer can give legal advice but cannot appear before a court of law. Further there are restrictions on an advocate on employment whereas a lawyer can profess any vocation or business and can undertake private employment.
Nobody can frame a perfect answer than an advocate himself.

Mr. Saurbh Ajay Gupta who is an advocate on record in the Supreme Court of India and additional advocate general (Punjab), currently working as junior advocate to Mr. Ram Jethmalani, one of most renowned advocate in India. Being a graduate of Symbiosis Law School, Pune; he was more than happy to grace us symbian’s with his presence to elucidate the relevance of practical training in the field of law.

What does one require to become a good lawyer? This can only be explained by the major prerequisite of practical training. Lets take the case of a doctor: A doctor may have studied each and every book about the human body and may be well learned in the theoretical knowledge but that will still be termed as conjectural because until he performs practical training on a patient, be it as little as checking the pulse, he cannot be of much use to the society except for parting with his advice. Same thing goes for a lawyer that knowledge of law is not enough until he applies what he has learnt.

A lawyer only becomes a lawyer when he pleads law and the law students can get close to their profession by getting internships and participating in moot courts. These are the two paramount ways for practical training in our field. Mr. Gupta comprehended more on the internship aspect during our five year college term.
His personal opinion on internships being:
“No one teaches you, offers to help you, or keeps you under scrutiny during internships. You need to take the initiative to work, to learn, to perform yourself”
It is as simple as that. Internship is learning what is going on in the real world. Practical procedure requires action and implementation on your part, so more importantly as an intern we should leave our footprints i.e. basically a good impression on the people we’re working under, as Mr. Gupta before joining Mr. Jethmalani was working as an intern under him during his college years.

Further, talking about advocacy: There is a general notion of law students that once out of law school, they’ll only want to practice in the Supreme Court or the High Courts of India and anything below that will be demeaning to their stature. Well this is completely wrong. To be precise, there should be a proper level of accession i.e. one should begin from a district court because all the big cases which reach the higher courts originate at the lower courts. To make this more interesting, Mr. Gupta stated that most interesting murder cases trial proceedings start from the lower courts itself therefore all of us should be well versed in all fields of law, and hence should be acquainted with the procedure of filing cases in the courts and their respective jurisdictions.

The session ended with some classic quotes stated by Abraham Lincoln being
"A lawyer's time and advice are his stock in trade" which further extends to
“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”
By which Mr. Gupta made his opinion clear on ethical practice which basically meant always advocating a good cause.

Hope the first year interns are having a nice time at their respective internships and learning as well as gaining experience along with it.

Thoughts of a teacher on Teacher's Day..

5th September- Teacher’s day. Oh God! So many wishes to collect  from all the current and past students across the nation- SMS, facebook, calls, but it reminds me of my teachers, who contributed a lot to bring out the best out in me since my childhood.

Surprisingly, students organizing the teacher’s day function asked me “what best I like in SLS, Noida?”; the answer was obvious- it’s the ‘student fraternity’ of this campus, not just because the-

  • ·         Campus is for them,
  • ·         Garden and greenery is for them,
  • ·         Security and facility is for them,
  • ·         Café and library is for them,
  • ·         Lab and lobby is for them,
  • ·         Teachers and staff are for them,
  • ·         I am here for them and they are force of my daily life/routine,
It is because the..
  • ·         Students are able,
  • ·         Students invoke opportunities,
  • ·         Students understand the occasion,
  • ·         Students prepare for the time,
  • ·         Students deliver on the occasion,
  • ·         Students care for all,
  • ·         Students are reason and life of this campus and all of us.

                                                    Rocking Fresher’s Party 2011

It’s the time of life when a child enters a whole new world. Parents often tell their children that they have turned adult and now they have to be mature enough to handle their own lives.
I as a student, who just passed class 12th and now wondering how the life will go about, had many questions in my mind. My heart was full of fear. My parents kept me telling to be careful in taking decisions. Nobody knew what was going in my head and I think nobody could have understood. For me, it was a new life with much more responsibilities, increased study pressure (as everybody said), more exposure and greater independence.
Though I ranked 2nd in admission procedure of college, still lacked confidence the first day I entered the building of Symbiosis Law School, Noida. Questions regarding ragging, my seniors, my teachers and my director were troubling me.
As few days passed, we were informed about the ice breaking session to be held on July 9, 2011.The dressing code given to us was mis-matched clothing. Though the theme was awkward but still we were looking forward for a nice time with our seniors.
We, the students of LLB, were right there in front of Director’s room where the stage and decorations were made. The programme began with a play and performances by our seniors. Our seniors were not only full of talent but also had a lovely nature. The performances kept our mouth open and we, the fresher’s, were enthralled to see our seniors on stage. The mis-matched theme was a success. Everybody took it seriously and actually dressed in an improper manner. It was exciting and wonderful to see the creativity of our batch mates dressed differently, all under one roof….
The next were our performances and it was a session that was guided by our seniors. It helped us to bond with them and get to know them better. The icing on the cake was done by the songs sung by our Director Dr. Rawandale. He narrated incidents of his life by singing some famous old songs. I loved his singing. I just have no words to express how much I loved his singing. He, with the students, was just like a kid himself. Our Director is so good that he never lets us feel out of place.  He ensured that college was just another home for us.
After joining the college, all my doubts were solved. There was no such thing called ragging, of which I was so scared. The seniors are so friendly and cooperative. Everybody in college is ready to help at any time of the day.
Lastly, party ended with a D.J session. All the students of Symbiosis Law School Noida were dancing together. We, the juniors, were beautifully welcomed by our seniors. And I loved the environment of the college. Looking forward for a wonderful time and learning experience at Symbiosis Law School Noida.

PERFECTLY MATCHED FRESHERS’ PARTY.....!!!

Someone has rightly said, ‘ In life you get what you deserve and  not what you desire and to be a winner one has to play the game, else he will be no one but a mere spectator’ but emotions certainly play an important role in everyone’s life. Such were my feelings when I bid adieu to my home. I was so sad that I even cried. But little did I know that my life was at SLS-Noida. I had no clue as to what was coming next. Stepped in a beautiful atrium with couches and coolers along with magazines to read, numerous stairs and of course, an unknown place with unknown people.............but this was my world.

I got to meet our Director Sir, must say ‘pizzazzz’ person. Cool, calm, strict and he definitely makes us all feel “comfortable”. It is true that I am not yet out of the hangover of the ice breaking session but yes a little better......thanks to whom..? Of course, our seniors! Someone has rightly said respect comes from within oneself and our seniors have really earned it. They have an aura which we usually don’t find in seniors.
We did not have to wait long for the “the freshers party.” Though theme was a bit awkward but the idea was innovative- “Mis-matched” an idea which made the party more colourful. We saw new fashion statements- few great, few bad, few really bad...(hehe). Seniors dressed up in traditional clothes (which gave us all a complex..hehe!) were pretty to watch.
Hanging tyres, decorated hall, arranged chairs, music console, and a platform for performances were all laid down beautifully.

The hard work is always visible and it was. The twelve groups that were made for the ice breaking session..........oh! I forgot, actually juniors were divided into twelve groups according to the months in which they were born and every group was supervised by a senior who helped us in preparing our acts that was to be performed on the party day. Few danced, few acted, few sang- yet the bottom-line was ‘fun.’ This was the Ice breaking session in which we rather broke the dance floor...courtesy.. “Suno Mr. DJ..,mera gaana please play..” Thanks to the DJ loud, hard rocking, which made us shout and yell...but....ssshhhhhhhh.......’Silence! The Court was in Session’ yes, a play that was performed by our seniors written by Vijay Tendulkar assisted by Shailja Ma’am, the seniors performed really well. A play with a mixture of humour and emotions depicting the oppression of a woman in a patriarchal society.....true there was a problem with the sound system which got interrupted in between for several times but when we get a whole cake as a treat there has to be some wastage, so never mind. The performance was terrific. Along with a play there was dance, singing, even solo performance by our seniors. Not to forget ‘Ringa Ringa’ which made all of us groove. Juniors performed equally well- few were good and few plays were ‘shaggy dog stay’ but when in party mood you definitely don’t get bored.
Lunch was also served to us...truly speaking the food was not as good as expected but it did fill up our empty stomach. Lunch was over and we got back to the party with full energy.
DJ...?????? Wait, i have got something more interesting than that....our beloved Salim Sir with his shayari flattered us....too good were they....he certainly has a good command over his words. But...but..but.......the lime light snatcher.....the show stopper..our lead hero was......... ‘well i will get back to this ’- yes, the one who always makes us feel comfortable....our very own Director Sir..’Wow!’ was the word which everyone said. Stunned were we to see him in a new avatar....what else do you want? A learned, brilliant, calm, cool, composed man who has the talent to sing as well. He has got em’ all. He described his college journey and his Symbiosis life through songs. He said “baatein kuch ankahin si”, shared his story and then he declared that “it’s time to party!” so we were on the floor and then there was “panga ” as “saare signal humne tod diye” to make that party “dhinka chika!”

Wooh! Party over but I wish the love that was showered on us never gets over. ”ek din aap humko yun mil jayenge…phool hi phool rahon mein khil jayenge...humne socha na tha.

In short, thank you SLS Noida, thank you Director Sir and last but not the least thank you our dear seniors.
