The MUN Diaries :)

The college began on 6th of December, 2010. January 2011 Nikita Arora brings to us an invitation of GLC MUN 2011 which was due in the 3rd week of January. It was a risk. There were only two people who knew what exactly a MUN was.

For the rescue came the alumni of our sister college SLS, Pune. Mr. Suvajit Chokravarti and Mr. Ash Narain for the rescue.

How was there experience? Let’s find out in their own words!

Mr. Ash Narain

1)     You came to a sister college of your own college, which was a month old, and had nothing to offer. Were you skeptical about being there?

I wasn't skeptical of being there. I was intrigued, actually

2)     You were one of the main reasons, why the first ever team of SLS, Noida came into existence. We went to GLC MUN, won an honourable mention. Feels good?

Very flattering, thanks very much. I doubt my presence had a lot to do with the consequent triumphs of the team. Symbiosis has done well to admit quality talent and their time tested training and skill honing techniques are largely responsible for the results. Symbiosis presently produces some of the best legal minds in the country, a fact that I being an alumni, am proud of. This is a result of a well thought out selection process, premium teaching methods and a healthy environment.

3)     You saw the students in their crude form, did you expect anything from them?

Yes indeed. But they certainly surpassed all reasonable expectations. Well done!

4)     Now that SLS Noida is racing towards success in almost every field, does that make you proud somehow?

I'll have to take your word for it, haven't been following. It doesn't surprise me though, the meteoric rise of the facility. With people like Mr. Rawandale at the fore, I would expect nothing less.

5)     A message for us?

Stay true to what Symbiosis is. Be different. Stand out. Have fun. Make a name for yourselves. And go to Symbiosis Pune once every year to see the real thing! The city is our campus, our teacher and now our most cherished memory!

Ah, well, That would speak for itself. This first team, won laurels and people came to know there was a college called SLS, Noida existing. And from then on, there was no stopping us. In every MUN in the country, the munners from SLS, Noida, are called, respected, and moreover celebrated!

Jaideep Sood, Purvasha Mansharamani, Mahir Vivek Sood, Mayank Agrawal, Palash Hajela are just few jewels in the never ending list of upcoming MUN stars.

We have conducted two successful Intra MUN’s which have been praised and appreciated and now await the first National MUN, which is due this year. Because in one way or the other, we believe in being that change that we want to see in the world.
So let’s talk to these few top position holders nationwide in the MUN circuits.

MAYANK AGARAWAL

1) From being selected to the First SLS official team to anywhere, to winning the first award for college at GLCMUN2011, how would you describe your feeling?

Probably, the last degree of every Cheerful word would not be able to describe that feel,
my first MUN, College's First ever event and it ended up with a win....
What else, could I have wished for?

 2) SYMMUN1 and SYMMUN2, your extreme contributions, made the events a grand success, enlighten us?
Indeed, the events were a grand success but not coz of me alone; it was because of the zeal that the organizing team showed up both the times in making it memorable. From being the Rapporteur in part I to Secretary General in Part II, It has been fun working with such delighted and enthusiastic people.

Mahir Vivek Sood...

6) Define MUNning in 5 words?

ENTERTAINING

JAIDEEP SOOD
1)       How and what got you into MUNs?

9th Grade. My school was hosting an MUN. For me it was just another event to get attendance. I was made the security head and was escorting chief guests here and there with a cool wake talkie in my hand. After the first session the sec gen approaches me and asks me to sit as the delegate of china in a technical committee such as the G-8. Learning Munning from Scratch to winning a special mention at the end of two days was the beginning of the wonderful journey in the world of muns.

2) What do you think about MUNs, do you think mun helps in any way?

MUN's a perfect way to develop yourself in schools, and the best partners in College Life. Mun can change one’s life if regular at it. It is an overall development with benefits just more than professional.

3) You have seen the basic structure of MUNs from all possible perspective’s, be it delegate, oc, eb or ip, you have done it all. What are your views when you step into all those shoes, which one is your favourite?

Being in the OC. A good MUN is recognized by the way it is organized. A mun is successful if it is organized well. :)

4) Well a little birdie told us that the preparations for the national edition of SYMMUN are on, can you share with us a few secrets or inner details?

Well, it’s just going to be one of the best MUNs in INDIA.

5) Did SLS, Noida play a part in your munning career?

I came from a school Munning culture, but being the part of the first official college team and the amazing GLC trip yes, Munning being a part of SLS NOIDA has always been joyful.

6) Define Munning in 5 words.

 Adventurous, Bivouac, Intense, Debate, Drama

PURVASHA MANSHARAMANI

1)      From the AMIMUN 2011 to 17 MUNS till date, how would you define your journey in the Munning world?

I started my MUNning career with a point blank start, from sitting straight faced on the first day and trying to understand the whole functioning through the next two days, it was sort of interesting to see so many different views & feelings on the same issue, from moderating to debating from writing to editing from learning to growing, all phenomena’s happening on the same level, well that’s how I picked up.

Slow and with patience, I tried to be on all levels of this activity. It made me grow as a person; it widened my knowledge and made me much wiser than I was previously.

2)      You played major roles in the immense success of SYMMUN 1 and 2, how does that feel?

Well to be frank enough, it’s always more than a privilege to work with people who have better knowledge than you do because then there is a learning process which is involved. And the way MUNs changed me as a person all together, I am sure I would want every person to know better about them and be involved in it not just as an extra-circular activity but also as a learning process.

3)      The first national SYMMUN is soon to come, what are your preparations and expectations?

The preparations have started, the bars are set high.
With a sorted vision in our minds, the team this time will not just make it bigger & better but will make sure that there is no stone left unturned to make this one of the best MUNs ever.

4)      Did SLS, Noida play a part in your munning career?

I was introduced to the very concept of MUNs in this college and trust me it would be a shame if I take the credit away from Kartik Dubey and our college for making me attend my first MUN because after that there has been no turning back.

5)      A message to people who are alien to the concept of MUNs?

Well, a Model United Nations for me is not just another fancy term which means partying and lazing around, it means you have taken the responsibility to not just be a part of the change but to initiate it.
Your ideas can do wonders to the world outside, some change if not at a global level but even if you change a mind of a few people, counts.

6)      Why IP?

The Press has been losing its dignity & respect worldwide; the levels of reporting have gone way below our standards. With the very view in mind to change the mind set, maybe starting from MUNs will somehow help, because for me it’s always about doing what I can do best.

Also, because I have been an avid reader & a writer from past 8 and half years now, the whole concept of reporting is pretty much interesting, it can dilute somebody’s mind, it can change future. If you read a few lines which have been written properly, you can never forget them for they cast a spell on your mind and leave its impact, forever.

7)      Define Munning in 5 words.

Debate.  Change.  Accept. Read. Critiqued

MAHIR VIVEK SOOD

1)      Being a known face in the MUN circuit, how does it feel?

It feels amazing. I feel very confident and awesome. It feels good that people recognize you for something you're good at. And the best part is the circuit is going on and on. Knowing people in the MUN circuit has helped me a lot in many ways. I've met VERY interesting people through MUNs

2)      You think SLS,Noida has helped anyhow in this process?

SLS has been a great help to some extent. I screwed up my attendance in first semester but the college supported me regarding MUNs and I was being saved from getting a TNG. The training session and the Intra SYM MUN was amazing. I thank the college for providing with the appropriate resources for the same.

3)       The National MUN is coming up, and you would definitely be in the organization. What are your expectations?

My expectation for this big conference are very high. I expect lots of participation not only from other colleges but from SLS as well. Also, I expect it to be well organized and would definitely work hard for the same.

4)       Who do you think are the prominent munners in our college?

Purvasha , Jaideep , Aadya , Mayank and many more. I've also come across some emerging MUNers like Rangam , Animesh and many more.

5)        Describe MUN in 5 words.

Can't express can only feel .
